SiP Talk #6

Symposium on Science, Technology and Public Policy

How to mitigate and adapt to climate change? How to champion sustainability in the mobility landscape and energy system in an attempt toreduce society’s overall ecological footprint? And how to improve the quality of life in rapidly expanding cities worldwide by overcoming the challenges brought forth by a digital society and capitalizing on its opportunities.

These are some of the key societal issues whose solutions are likely to emerge at the intersection of science, technology, and public policy. This symposium showcases the efforts of some of the best technical universities in the world to institutionalize policy-focused, interdisciplinary research, and teaching in this field.

In doing so, the role of science and engineering in national and international public policy-making, the methods currently employed by technical universities in educating the next generation of societal problem-solvers, as well as the extent to which they are able to assist decision-makers in the identification, assessment, and implementation of potential solutions will be examined.
