Omar Kassab joined ETH Sustainability in December 2012. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from TU Darmstadt and a Master's degree in Comparative and International Studies (MACIS) from ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. In parallel to his current position, he completed a doctoral degree (Dr. sc. ETH) in impact evaluation in the area of higher education research.
Since 2014, he acted as project manager of the Sustainability Report of ETH Zurich, which was awarded with the Swiss Ethics Prize in 2018. He is also responsible for the coordination of the public lecture series The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Context, in cooperation with the department D-USYS and the ETH4D initiative, as well as for the exchange with student initiatives and commissions.
Some of his former professional stations include the German Foreign Office in Nepal, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in East Jerusalem, the Competence Center for Environment and Sustainability (CCES) of the ETH Domain, and the Professorship for Social Psychology and Research on Higher Education at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS) of ETH Zurich.
He is co-founder and general secretary of the NGO Syrian Refugee Crisis, financially supporting the psychosocial treatment of war-traumatized Syrian refugee children in Jordan.
Omar is an alumnus of the German National Academic Foundation and of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
